Photographer Amanda Friedman grew up in Motown, a fine city of perennially disappointing sports franchises and deteriorating industry. As a child, Amanda choreographed keenly tweaked air guitar solos to some of D-Town’s finest musical offerings: from Was (Not Was) to The Nuge, to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, (and much later) Uncle Kracker and Insane Clown Posse. Her expert lineage with the imaginary axe naturally progressed into photography, and her work, of late, has been included in The New York Times, The London Sunday Telegraph, Travel Leisure, Time, Newsweek and Budget Travel. She was a 1999 Surface Magazine Avant Guardian, a 2008 Critical Mass Finalist and placed first for photo essay in the 2011 PDN/ National Geographic Traveler World in in Focus Contest.
